This confluence is referred to as Triveni Sangam and is considered one of the holiest sites in Hinduism.


The name "Allahabad" was given during the Mughal era, reflecting its diverse cultural heritage. However, in 2018, the city was officially renamed "Prayagraj," restoring its ancient identity, which means "Place of Sacrifice" in Sanskrit.

The city also hosts the Kumbh Mela, a grand religious gathering held every 12 years, and the Ardh Kumbh Mela every six years, attracting millions of pilgrims from across the country and the world.

The historical significance of Prayagraj is evident through various landmarks like the Allahabad Fort, built by Emperor Akbar, and the famous Anand Bhavan, the former residence of the Nehru-Gandhi family, now serving as a museum. The city has been associated with several notable personalities, including India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
